Operation Valkyrie : Plan to kill Hitler that failed

In history there are many conspiracy in a plot to assassinate Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. No fewer than 15 attempts and the closest was an  on July 20, 1944.

The conspiracy was planned after the trial of Major General Henning von Tresckow failed on March 13, 1943. He placed explosives concealed in bottles of liquor on the plane which Hitler flew. Unfortunately, it did not explode because of technical problems.

Plot July 20 was the last rebels to end the dictator’s history. Based on original plan, after they kill Hitler, they will  take power by activating an existing operation code has been changed.

Tresckow together with General Freidrich Olbrich and Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg modified the action plan called Valkyrie with a view to use the German Reserve Army to take over cities in Germany by selfishness and hold the power to dissolve the paramilitary organization, Schutzstaffel (SS) and Special Police Forces the anti-Hitler, Geheime Staatspolizei (GESTAPO) serving the Nazi party.

Finally, the awaited opportunity has come when Hitler military conference held on July 20, 1944 in the heart of Hitler’s military, known as the Wolf’s Lair in Rastenburg, Poland. Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg is the role of key individuals do attempt to kill Hitler by placing a bomb during the conference.

About 12.30 pm during a new conference began, Stauffenberg was using the bathroom in there to activate bomb in his bag. once activated, he had 10 to 15 minutes to get out of the conference before it exploded.

In later entered the conference room and carefully put the bag under the conference table.A few minutes after it, Stauffenberg received a call and rushed out after putting the phone.

Once Straffenberg left the building , a huge explosion erupted at about 12:45 pm. convinced that Hitler had been killed in the explosion, Strauffenberg left the building , a huge explosion erupted at about 12:45 pm. Olbricht then met the Commander of the Army Reserve Force Germany , Freidrich Fromm and said that Hitler was killed and insist Fromm to join them . Fromm did not believes and straight to contact the Field Marshal, Wilhelm Keitel in Wolfs Lair for confirmation and was told that Hitler is still alive.

Hitler survived the bomb blast that seeks to kill him and only suffered some minor cuts . Four people were killed and another officer was injured .

Fromm refused to give her collaborations have been locked in a room. Olbricht took over Fromm’s power and deploy soldiers to resist the SS , GESTAPO and Nazi Party officials . He also issued an order to seize various government buildings in several towns.

Major Otto Ernst Remer , the officer who led the German reserve soldiers have come to the headquarters of the Nazi party’s propaganda chief to hold him. But Goebbels had other news to Remer . He had approached Hitler and gave the phone to Remer . When he heard of Hitler , Remer realizes that the Army Reserve Germany has cheated and used discretion to seize power from Hitler .

After that, the operation Valkyrie stopped immediately, and Hitler ordered that all rebels arrested. At 1 pm, July 21, 1944, Hitler’s voice is heard on the radio and he made an announcement saying that there has been a rebel attempt to kill him and he survived..

Remer with German Savings Soldiers went to the headquarters of rebels in Benderblock and then arrested all of them. Fromm detained by rebels has been released and he then ordered the death penalty continues to General Freidrich Olbricht, Colonel Albrecht Mertz von Quirheim, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg and Lieutenant Werner von Haeften. Stauffenberg and several other officers were shot dead on the spot.

A total of nearly 5000 rebels were hunted, tortured and killed, Many of the rebels were tried in court and sentenced to hang by a rope hanging over the piano meat hook.
